this amazing symmetry is very easy to achieve. Just get a bottle of wine (make sure it is full) and a wine glass, half full. Position both subject in the way it shown on my shot. Move your camera to find a perfect symmetry. You will be suprised to find out how easy it is. Also in order to get a perfect symmetry you must use a bottle without a body curves (bottle from Pinot Noir is not going to work, but from Cabernet will do).

Try it yourself and post it here, every new attmept to reproduce this classic composition always look defferent.

I don't actually have a camera of my own and haven't done any real photography (mostly just snapping quick pictures with my camera phone or my mom's cheap digital), but I am very interested in photography and would very much like to get into it more, I'm hoping to get a camera of my own for Christmas and if I do I'll be getting into it a lot more. I also don't have a wine bottle (although I might be able to find a sparkling juice bottle). But, I will definitely keep this in mind to try when I do get a camera of my own and a bottle that will work - thank you for the tips.

Another question though, is it easier to get this with certain lighting position and certain background?

for myself: i see this kind for the first time... impressive. And even it's not your own idea you reproduction is perfect.

i like the way u used a bottle to get the same effect *kicking myself in the butt for thinking of it

hey dont worry abt the idea not being yours... execution does matter u know! u must have spent quite a lot of time on getting the composition correct, the exposure correct.. hey its a lot of work and it deserves all the credit it can get.

and as i found out during my experiments.. water has a very annoying habit of sticking to the glass sides, which breaks the line of symmetry in a rather annoying way... but i also found a solution for it in the school physics books ... just add soap to the water/wine wtever... it reduces surface tension and makes the liquid surface flat.. gives a much better result!!
